hands
Every other sheet here takes the keyboard away from your eyes. This one hands it to you: the board below is wired to the keyboard in front of you, and the job is to read the map — where each finger rests, and which keys it owns. Look freely. When the map stops being news, go to Keys, where it is taken off the screen and asked for back.
Two exercises · nothing is recorded · the looking ends here
FIG. 1—The rest position
Eight fingers, two bumpsBoth index fingers find the raised bumps on F and J — they exist so the row can be found without sight. The other six fall outward along the row, and the thumbs rest on space. Fingertips, not pads: a flat finger cannot reach the far rows without dragging the whole hand with it. The roll call below names each finger once; land it on its key.
Hands off the keyboard · a thumb on space begins
A finger will be named, eight times over. Land it on its home key — the two bumps under your index fingers are F and J, and the rest is feel.

FIG. 2—What presses what
Wired to your keyboardPress any key and the sheet answers: the finger that owns it, the movement from home, and the column it belongs to. The board is ten columns, one per finger, each readable top to bottom as a name — anyone who has typed 1qaz2wsx has already met the structure without being told it was the map. Walk all ten.
0 / 10 columns walked — all three keys of a column, top to bottom. Forgotten when you leave: the walk is a tour, not a record.

FIG. 3—The order of work
How the sheets fit togetherMastery is five activities in a fixed order, each assuming the one before it. Read the map here, once. Commit it to memory in Keys — twenty minutes, and unlike everything after it, finished. Turn the locations into movements in the Course. Keep the habit alive in Today. And let the Instrument and the Report say what to fix next, because past a certain speed you cannot feel your own errors. Speed work on a map you do not have is the expensive way round.
